Igor Bisio was born in Novi Ligure (Alessandria), Italy in 1978. He got his “Laurea” degree, in Telecommunication Engineering, at the University of Genoa, Italy in 2002 and his Ph.D. degree in “Information and Communication Sciences” at the University of Genoa in 2006. His Ph.D. course was funded by the Italian Consortium of Telecommunications (CNIT).
He worked for both CNIT-University of Genoa Research Unit and Selex Communications S.p.A., from 2002 to 2008 as research consultant. He is currently Assistant Professor and he is member of the Telecommunication Research Group and, in particular, of the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Satellite Communications and Networking (SCNL) Laboratories research staffs at the University of Genoa.
During his research activity, he is collaborating, in the framework of research projects, with several industries in the ICT field such as Telecom Italia S.p.A., Selex Communications S.p.A., Elsag Datamat S.p.A., with several SMEs and he is also technical consultant of several public bodies. He is also a ComSoc IEEE Member since 2004 and IEEE Satellite and Space Communications Technical Committee Member since 2005, since July 2008 he has been Secretary and Webmaster and since 2010 he is the Vice Chair of the Technical Committee.
He is author of more than 60 scientific papers including international journals, international conferences and book chapters. He is recipient of several International Awards such as the “IEEE Globecom 2006 Best Student Paper Award” in the Physical Communications Systems Category (San Francisco, CA, USA), the “IEEE International Workshop on Satellite and Space Communications 2006 Best Ph. D. Paper Award” (Madrid, Spain), the “First International Conference on Advances in Satellite and Space Communications 2009 Best Paper Award” (Colmar, France) and the “Second International Conference on Advances in Satellite and Space Communications 2010 Best Paper Award” (Athens, Greece). He has organized Special Issues of International Journals and Magazines (such as IEEE Journal of Communications and Networks and the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine) and is Technical Committee Co-Chair of many international conferences including IEEE Globecom (in particular IEEE GC’10 and IEEE GC’11), IEEE ICC (in particular IEEE ICC’12), Personal SATellite Services (PSATS) Conference, International Conference on Advances in Satellite and Space Communications (SPACOMM).
His main research activities concern Resource Allocation and Management for Satellite Communication systems, Optimization Algorithms and Architectures for Satellite Sensor Networks, Traffic Modelling, Advanced Controls for Interplanetary Networks and for Heterogeneous Networks, Signal Processing over Portable Devices such as Smartphones, Context and Location Awareness, Adaptive Coding Mechanisms, Indoor Localization, Security and e-health Applications.
